Because It's Good For Students- Nothing More

Here we are, day one of the Slice of Life Writing Challenge! Now, whether you're a new slicer or a returning slicer you know the writing every day for the month of March is a challenge in and of its self. And, then imagine being a co-author of the Two Writing Teachers blog. This lifts the level of the challenge a bit more... but this year I have decided... go big or go home!

This year I have decided to host a slice of life blogging class after school once a week for the teachers in my district! I have about ten excited, eager, and dedicated teachers committed to writing IN FRONT of their kids for the month of March and then releasing the challenge to their students in April!

I am so proud of these teachers and so excited for the 250 students who are watching their teachers write as they aspire to become bloggers in April as they take on the classroom challenge!

So, if you see these new bloggers around the neighborhood, many blogging right from Kidblog, so their students can see all the behind scenes work of being a teacher who writes on a blog as part of a writing community, give them a hardy welcome and encourage them to stick with the hard work of being a teacher who writes because its good for their students!

  1. What a wonderful idea! It's sometimes hard to write to share. Writing does help us experience our world in a different way. I might just try the challenge with my class in April.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to work and learn alongside you, to remember the productive struggles involved in writing and to be transparent as a learner in my classroom!

  6. I wrote my post for today in front of my kids. They sat there as they watched my words come to life before them on the SmartBoard. They saw that even I, a teacher, sometimes had to stop and think of where to take my paragraph. When I finished one said, "I guess you weren't kidding when you said it's okay to pause and think." They saw the writing process come to life and once I was done they all asked if they could try.

  7. I absolutely love this idea! What lucky teachers to have you there as their cheerleader throughout this month! I’d love to borrow this idea from you next year! Looking forward to seeing some of your teachers’ blogs as they pop up!

  8. Oh, I love this! I'm going to do it! I'm excited that the Classroom SOL has moved so I can spend some more time focused on just my writing and then on just their writing. I have a couple other ideas to get them ready for April, but I think this one is perfect. Thanks for sharing!

  9. This is wonderful! I've never had a colleague or friend join me in Slice of Life so this would be such a support for those teachers. I'm totally excited about this for you and your fellow teacher writers. And what an example for the students.
