We Are Daring Greatly: SOLSC Day 4

For the month of March, I'll be writing with all you in the Slice of Life community.  Disclaimer:  I'll be writing every day so the writing will be raw and a bit messy most days.

Yesterday while sitting on the plane I listened to Oprah’s podcast, Super Soul Sunday with Berne Brown. These great minds talked as casually as friends having coffee. As I listened I realized we are  daring greatly.  Berne defines daring greatly as being courageous, showing up, being seen, and being vulnerable. Berne and Oprah extend their thoughts to share vulnerability as the cornerstone of confidence. When you can take risk and be open you gain confidence you begin to realize your just like everybody else. Vulnerability opens the door to intimacy and deeper relationships.

Do you see our Slice of Life Writing Challenge here? Do you see we are daring greatl everyday?

First, we are courageous! We signed up and we showed up!  By participating in this challenge we're putting ourselves, our words, and our muddled thoughts out there for all to read.  If that isn't being vulnerable I don't know what is.

Secondly, as these two brilliantly reflective ladies explained we are vulnerable.  By writing publicly, we gain confidence and we begin to see we are just like everybody else.

Finally, it's in this vulnerability that we not only find confidence but we also build relationships and intimacy with one another.  Through our writing we are daring greatly and because of this we learn about each other, we develop a trust of each other and our community.

Thank you all for allowing me to be vulnerable and feel confident while doing so.

  1. This is great! I really feel this way as a participant in SOL and teachers dare greatly on a daily basis, too.

  2. Love this! I don't know if those who don't participate understand just how much courage it takes and how vulnerable we make ourselves when we put our writing out for the world to see.

  3. Sometimes writing is the easy part... having someone READ our writing... now that takes courage and vulnerability. I am so grateful to Two Writing Teachers for providing a safe space to share my writing. Thanks for your thoughts!

  4. Thank you for the reminder about Brene Brown. I had heard her on Ted Talks a number of years ago and see her pic with Oprah on occasion but I had not read her books. That is going to change. We all need these powerful affirmations. I know I do. Thank you.
