My Daughter the Serial Fish Killer: SOLSC Day 15

My Daughter the Serial Fish Killer.

One night we sat gathered around the dinner table sharing the stories of our family. Our oldest daughter started laughing.

“Remember that fish I had that would never die?”  My husband and I made eye contact, communicating our shock, confusion, and guilt all at once and without words.
Finally, I spoke suspiciously,

“Do you mean Bob?”

Lexi laughed again,
“Yeah, I never told you guys, but I was tired of having a fish, so I stopped feeding him.”

"Are you serious?" I blurted out.

"Yeah, man those fish live forever!" Lexi stated emphatically.

Suddenly, my voice joined as one with Tim's as we laughed and explained to Lexi how many times the "live forever, A.K.A., starved fish" had been REPLACED to spare her feelings!

Lexi's face turned from joyful guilt to utter despair.

"I am a serial fish killer!"

  1. Oh my gosh, Deb! What a twist at the end! Do you know the story "Thirteen and a Half" by Rachel Vail? I won't spoil the story, but your tale is quite similar! How many fish did you go through?

  6. That's hilarious - those poor fish. You are good parents, thought, sparing your child the pain of losing a fish!
