It's here, It's here! Toaday is the #PB10for10 event hosted by Cathy at Reflect and Refine and Mandy at Enjoy and Embrace. I love this event not only because I love the challenge of attempting to pick out 10 picture books, but also learning about all the books that others share! This event could not have better timing, just time to get my book tubs set up and ready to be devoured by young readers! A HUGE thank you to all of you who are participating and Cathy and Mandy for hosting!
This year I decided to share a few of my favorite song books. Each year I begin the year with books the kids are familiar with and can read with ease, song books fit perfectly here. I place these books in baskets on the tables so kids read when they come into the room and throughout the day. Kids love the rhythm and rhyme in song books and begin to build fluency naturally. I also read these books in shared reading, the kids love to "sing" or read along! Reading together helps readers who maybe a bit unsure to join right in and then read with more confidence at their tables.
I am always on the look out for good song books. If you have a title you'd like to add please leave me a comment!
Deb,
ReplyDeleteI always wonder how I can be right across the hall and am still surprised by the books I see you post. How did I not know about all of these titles? Thanks for helping me to add a few books to my song tub.
Glad you were able to find time to join the event. You're going to have to show me how to combine pictures like you did in this post.
Cathy
I absolutely love that you sing with your students! When I think of language development, and how we read to our children when they are young, we read lots of rhymes and rhythms. Songs are a perfect combination of those two. You are so smart, my friend. Love your titles!
ReplyDeleteOh, what fun!! Great books and great songs too! So clever.
ReplyDeleteLike Cathy, you have to tell us how you combined all the pictures. (There's another blog post to keep you writing!!) :)
Happy singing into the new year!
Michelle
Love, love, love your collection. Shake your sillies out is something I must have. Off to amazon.
ReplyDeleteReally interesting list with many titles I haven't seen before. Thanks very much.
