Breakfast, Bloggers & Books!

This summer I was invited to join local bloggers for breakfast and book shopping. I was honored to join in the company of great thinkers like Cathy of Reflect and Refine, Franki of A Year of Reading, Mary Lee of A Year of Reading, Bill of Literate Lives, Karen of Literate Lives, Mandy of Enjoy and Embrace LearningKatie of Creative Literacy, Tony of Atychiphobia, Stella of My World - Mi Mundo, Kristine of Best Book I Have Not Read, and Maria of Teaching in the 21st Century. It was the perfect way to begin my summer! Thank you for welcoming me and sharing your time and talents. I still can't believe I am a part of this community, it is a true honor!
Book shopping at Cover to Cover is always a special occasion for me, but with this crew it was a true adventure! Watching all the great books everyone picked and listening to everyone share their favorites made EVERY book irresistible!  My only wish was that my book budget could have been limitless! I managed to narrow my choices to only a select few...

I can't wait to share them with you and my class! (This years and next years! Thanks to VoiceThread!)

The first book I chose to share with my class was I Spy with My Little Eye by Edward Gibbs. This year my class fell in love with eye spy books and Steven Jenkins books so when Mandy recommended this one it was a must have! This book has a cut out so only the eye of the animal is shown along with a clue about the animal. As the reader turns the page the animal is revealed, full color across two pages! My kids will love guessing the animal with only a peek of the eye and a small clue, they will celebrate in confirming their predictions!

  1. Deb,
It was the perfect summer kick-off. Thanks for sharing your finds. It's nice to know what I can come across the hall to borrow.

  3. I don't think that a teacher can ever have a big enough book allowance. There are too many gems out there. Sounds like you got your hands on some winners. I can't wait to hear about the rest.

How wonderful that you were able to visit with all of those educators! That must have been so much fun!

I love your idea of sharing books through Voice Thread with your students over the summer. Great idea and it only cements your place in my mind as the "Queen of Voice Threads"!
